This is a Cal-King headboard that we built and installed for a client in Jackson, WY. The headboard is 108"L x 48"T x 6"W. It's an engineered fir veneer. The access hatches on each side are for a dimmer switch that will be mounted on the back side with only the dimmer dial protruding through for minimal exposure. The break in the metal inlay above the top shelf is for an audio jack on the shelf.

Are you sure it goes to Jackson, WY? Where are the antlers?

Nice work, clean and sharp.

Could you talk about how the inlay of aluminum was done and how this is finished as far as the wood is concerned?

Very neat work, clean edges and beautiful veneer. You can be proud of it. I'd also like to know how the metal inlays influenced the sanding. I would expect the finish sanding would let the inlays stand out from the surface.

Thanks for the great comments, it's what fuels the fire. The metal inlays just require careful sanding. They are dead flush with the surface. We sanded the whole thing after the inlays were tapped in. Because the aluminum is soft we brushed the "grain" back into it with a hard block and 150 grit as a final. We had to keep heavy air blowing on it constantly to keep the aluminum dust from getting pressed into the grain of the wood. It's a tedious process.
