This curved wall cabinet is made entirely from shop scraps...cherry and birch left over from a recent kitchen project.

Bent laminations were utilized for the doors rails and drawer fronts. The doors birch panel staves were steam bent and dried on the form to keep their shape.

Turned cherry knobs.

Finish is Danish oil and carnauba wax.

I like the detail on the shelves, and the curve on the drawers. I think the curvy accents on the doors are a bit much. Interesting idea, but it would be better in more moderation.

I say go all out on the design, beautiful work!

When I saw this chest, my eyes saw the five birch shelves as ten lines with the inserts in the drawers as another pair. This created a six-line Hexagram from the I-CHING.

The Hexagram 2 is named 坤 (kūn), "Field". Other variations include "the receptive", "acquiescence", and "the flow". Its inner trigram is ☷ (坤 kūn) field = (地) earth, and its outer trigram is identical.

With all the curves, it is very "flowing" and beautiful.

Hi Folks,

Thank you all for the kind words.

All the best, Ken.

Nice work. That little curved lip on the shelves inside is totally the cat's meow. Great work.

How did you do the square dovetail detail? Are those square pegs covering screws or one piece with the drawer front and CNC cut?

Hi Scott, thank you for your comments.

The square pegs function to secure the drawer front to the sides; a butt joint that is re-enforced with the pegs. The wavy designed front was then laminated to the prepared curved surface.

No CNC in my shop....no fun in that!

Cheers, Ken.
