Nice looking job. Everything seems to flow very nicely. I do have one question about your hood cabinet that runs down to the counter. Does that make code? I though you needed atleast 12" from the edge of the range or cooktop to any combustible material. You can get closer if you tile or use a non-combustible surface.

The kitchen passed a final inspection from the city. It probably varies on municipality. I suggested a granite side splash to the customer.

Usally the manufacture of the equipment will say what the minimum allowable space is. I have found that 6" is usally what cooktops require.

first off beautiful work! To complicate the code discussion,I'm pretty certain that the code involvining range insertsrefers to horizontal surfaces above the plane of the range, otherwise the use of laminate countertops wouldn't be acceptable. Even on a standing range/oven the spacing is 30" ,matching the appliance
