Homemade headstock lathe

Listing #137   Listed on: 02/14/2015
Since I couldn’t bring myself to spend $4,000+ on a professional lathe, I decided to build my own over the past year or so. I used a variable speed 3hp DC treadmill motor and treadmill controller. The most expensive single piece was the machined driveshaft - $300. The lathe weighs about 700 pounds, and the tool rest weighs about 150lbs. I can use handheld chisels or the xy slide table vise with a router or mini grinder.

do you have additional photos or plans of your lathe? I can't quite figure it out from the photos you posted and would like to do the same.

I would like to see more of your lathe. What are you using it for and what have done so far?
Thank you
