Kitchen island height
What is the standard height for a kitchen island countertop? June 24, 2001
Question
What is the rule of thumb for the height of a kitchen island countertop (designed for sitting around on stools)?
Forum Responses
The last one I made was 40''. I don't know if that is a standard height, but it worked great for me.
42 inches is standard for a bar top.
36'' is a good working height and 24'' stools are the size you need.
36" seems to be the accepted height, with 42" the height for bar tops.
When seated add, 12" for countertop: 18" seat - 30" counter, 24" seat - 36" counter, 30" seat - 42" counter. 42" is also stand-up height (bar).
