Preventing brown stain on pine
Warm weather is the culprit; keeping still-to-be-processed logs cools is the solution. 1998.

Can spraying white pine logs with water during summer prevent development of coffee stains when the lumber of these logs are air or kiln dried?
A.
NO. In fact it may encourage brown stain. Warm weather is the primary factor--keep the logs very cool and the risk is lessened. The drying procedures for the first 48 hours are also critical.
