Sizing Dust Collection Duct Drops
Advice on proper sizing for the duct drops to individual machines from a main dust collection duct. November 5, 2013
Iím looking for input as to how big to make the dust collection drops to my machines.
(Dust Collection and Safety Equipment Forum)
From contributor T:
There is a convenient ductwork layout tool at Just Dust. You can lay out your shop and include your machines with port sizes. I-Duct will supply you with the parts you need.
From Curt Corum, forum technical advisor:
Drops to your machines should be the same as hood outlet collar size. If you run a larger diameter there will be a velocity reduction in the branch. Large particles may stay suspended in risers and fall when unit is turned off. If you run smaller it will not provide sufficient amount of air volume.
