Telescoping Gates for Pets and Toddlers
Ideas for safety gates built into a kitchen cabinet. January 2, 2012
Question
A customer wants a telescoping gate that comes out of the cabinet end panel to keep toddlers in and dogs out of the kitchen. Any suggestion for hardware that would do this? Maybe something like a towel drying rack?

Make the end cab 22" deep. Attach baby gate to the wall, behind the cabinet. Other end gets covered by a filler matching the cabinetry. Attach the filler with magnets to the cabinet.
I would also make the back of the cabinet removable from the inside, in case the dog chews the gate up and you need to replace it. My dogs seem to love the bottom sections of baby gates.

Possibly you could stack panels using regular full length ball bearing slides.
