Autocad 2017 with a surface book1/4
I'm using autocad 17 for the first time and there are some features i dont like and want to put it back to the old way
1. When i window an object to select, it no longer is a 90deg corner window. It makes a curved shaped window and I hate it
2. It doesn't want to select objects
3. I want the icons below to have words, vs icons. E.g. ORTHO, POLAR, etc
4. I want to have my hatxh patterns again, off to the right like I use to/currently have it on my laptop. So how do i add them and make them show?
I'm using a Surface Pro book and when i do a search under help topics, the text is very small
Also, i want to put the tool bars off to the left, instead of the ribbon and the icons are very small too.
How do i fix this disaster?
Not sure what version you upgraded from, but much of that can be taken care of by saving your workspace on the machine you are comfortable with. The resulting file can then be put on the new machine and the workspace imported. There are lots of tutorials and step by step guides on the internet on how to do this. After any customization of my AutoCAD environment, I always save my workspace, so in the event of a machine failure, I can install AutoCAD and get it back to what I am used to in minutes.
Just a few observations from someone with a touchscreen laptop similar to the Surface:
Make sure Touch Mode isn't enabled - it is an icon on the ribbon bar, typically at the far right.
As for question number 1. If you are using touch, I am not sure - I always carry a trackball with me. If you are using a mouse (or trackball), when you click to start selecting, DON'T hold down the mouse button - holding down the mouse button activates the freeform selection. If you don't want this feature, go to the options menu (command line: op), and under the selection tab, deselect "Allow press and drag for Lasso."
As for your hatches on the right, I am assuming that you have them on a tool palette. If so, you can right-click on the palette, away from any of the tools, and click "Customize Palettes..." Inside that dialog box, right-click the palette that has your hatches, and select export. Save the files where you can find them. In the new version of AutoCAD, enter the "Customize Palettes..." dialog, right-click the empty space below the palettes, and select import, navigate to where you exported the palette, and select. Then just make sure you have palettes on, make sure that you don't have the dialogs locked (command LOCKUI, set to 0 to unlock everything...I leave everything locked, and then hold CTRL to override), and move the palette where you want it. Right-Click the titlebar on the left/right of the palette, and select "Anchor Right >" to anchor to the right side of the screen.
I'm finally getting back to this. See how small my icons are? How do i get them bigger?
anyone? Please help Thank you!
For the size of the icon in the toolbar, I seem to remember there being something conflicting between AutoCAD and Windows 10...I don't use toolbars anymore, so I have never noticed it.
I pulled up the Dimension toolbar in AutoCAD 2017 on Windows 7, and don't have any problems. When I pulled up the Dimension toolbar in AutoCAD 2015 on Windows 10, I see the same small icon problem you are having. See the link below.
Without doing much digging to see if it fixes the problem, AutoCAD 2018 has added support for 4K displays, meaning it might fix the problem...
