Events and marketing casework design/production solution11/1
It has been a while since I have participated on woodweb. I am wondering if there are any new solutions ,or old ones I never considered, for my current employer. I am a Texan transplanted into the Philippines. Keep in mind we work in a We manufacture booths, cabinets, props, backdrops, stage sets and more for events and marketing. The Creative department uses Cinema 4D to develop and present to clients. I am not impressed with it... but they are not changing. The Creative team does not consider materials, engineering and often do not even scale the designs accurately. Once approved by the client it goes to Fabrication, thats my department. I have spent the last year developing the CAM side of the process so they can finally run the CNC machines effectively. We are not really using any kind of CAD/design package, it is mostly hand sketching. The boss is ready to take the next step by integrating costing, engineering and manufacturing IT with a single software package.
Here are our primary assets:
Biesse Rover 27
Materials we process more or less in order of the greatest to least consumed.
Plywood, melamine, laminates, Sintra Board (PVC boards), Giant blocks of styrofoam, wood, Acrylic sheet, LOTS of printed stickers, Steel for structural framing, fiberglass, there is a lot more.
All fabrication is in house.
I am considering:
CV Solid because I already know it well and I can get it to do pretty much anything. But it will be difficult for the fabrication team to create the very odd assemblies we do.
MicroVellum because it is AutoCad based and it is easy to find ACad operators here. But I have heard a lot of negative things about it as well.
SolidWorks with some kind of parametric assembly wizard and materials/ costing plugin.
Any ideas or comments?
Thanks for your time,
