Ceruse Finish On Veneer
3/8/16
Hey guys, I am looking to achieve a ceruse finish. What are the best steps for white wood sanding (quartered ash veneer). My first instinct would tell me to use a high grit paper (220 maybe) and avoid anything course so i do not level the veneer surface with the bottom of the grain. I would like to use a wide belt sander for consistency. Any thoughts?

I've done this type of finish on rift white oak.
sand normal 120 or 150.
Clear coat with conversion.
Sand with 220 to flatten finish.
If you want glaze to stick only in grain, spray another coat of clear
White glaze, wipe
clear topcoat.
make sample boards showing each step.

I have achieved ceruse finishes a few different ways. My favorite is to stain with general finishes stain, seal 2x, apply 1 coating of finish, use some general finishes waterbased floor paint to paint the entire surface, let it dry and then lightly sand it off with a 220grit screen. Works really well. Hope this helps
