My shop is a frameless shop that does both commercial and residential work.
We haven't had any problems with the multi-layer veneer banding 1.6+-, that we know of. We used to have problems with solid lumber bands until we started priming them, no issues since. Henkel/Dorus KS 217 adhesive Dorus primer.
I have also had this issue. I've had banding fall off an entire job. It's very embarrassing not to mention you will loose a customer, a GC, and an architect. I'm curious to hear people's solutions.
Now you've got me wondering if we should be priming the 1.6mm also?? That would be a PIA. We always prime HPL & solid lumber bands. Before we started priming those we would have an occasional failure. It always seemed random, making it hard to diagnose. We've always run a heavy bander and I don't think it has anything to do with the machine though it could be poor setup by the operator. If there is no or little adhesive on the banding it is not "wetting" the surface. Do a test run and let the adhesive get totally cool. Pry it off. Is there adhesive on both parts? Try the primer. On HPL we just spray up entire sheets and then cut it into banding. (I really don't like to use HPL but sometimes can't talk a designer out of it.) ABS/PVC comes already primed.
