I have been in business for 7 years with pretty good success. I want to start advertising online and was wondering what other people's experience was and what was their most succesful outlet for online sales? I do stand alone furniture exclusively. Any and all input is appreciated.
My first question is who is your target audience? Furniture is an ocean of 100$ bookcases to 30,000$ dining tables and the sea in between.
Are you selling direct? Have you considered wholesale?
Maybe posting a picture of your best selling item would help.
Paid advertising is the best and easiest way to scale. Facebook and Pinterest ads work best since furniture is a visual purchase. Once you build business then you can start worrying about organic traffic and SEO. But don't kid yourself, you aren't going to generate millions in sales by working on SEO. It takes lots of ads to get to that level.
On-line is a world wide option. I suggest you start with a Facebook business page so you are more local and friends and family share. Also include a blog on your webpage to show current work in progress. Drive traffic to your webpage from Facebook.
I would not recommend advertising on Yelp. In my experience, they are deceitful and will lure you in with free ad money. I did not experience a return on this investment.
One of the most impactful ways Ive helped my online traffic is by updating my location on Google and Apple maps. You can go crazy with SEO but I think the claiming your business is the easiest thing to do.
I've recently started my own business and have been experimenting with different types of advertising. I think the most successful online advertising for me at this point is using Google ad words. Take the time and set it up properly with key words that are specific to your business and you'll notice great amounts of traffic headed to your website. The great thing about Google ad words is that you can choose how much you pay so you won't go over your budget. I've also started looking into advertising in magazines and online magazines specific to my field. That could be another good option for you to try as well!
