Contour Edgebander
4/1/15
I have been looking for a Contour edgebander for a while(years). We don't do a lot of it but when you need it you need it. I have looked at the auction free standing banders and they always look "well used" and are pricey. Some of the glue pot hand held units that have come out recently from a few manufacturers look interesting but I could not find anyone with experience with them. I saw an ad for a Festool contour bander and had to check it out. They have a good reputation and appear to over engineer everything.
I called my hand tool supplier and was lucky to get the Festool rep to come out and demo it. It is a puck system like a Holzher. I don't have a great deal of experience with it yet and it has not stood the test of time but so far it is awesome, heats up in 8.5 minutes and works well. If you are in the market it is worth a look.

We've got the Le-matic portable. It works better than I had thought. We don't use it a lot, mainly for parts that are too big to handle on our Brandt contour bander.

Stiles Machinery sells a CNC machine for contour edge banding called a Vector. Also have some manual feed contour EBs made by Brandt.
