What do u all think about this product?

I have a PM 66 with Bies (accu-fence) fence....

Have any of you bought and used this?

Worth it? Waste of time and money? How accurate? Does it REALLY help for when you need to go back and cut another piece with the same exact dims (especially vertical partitions between a top and bottom) where it needs to be accurate to within 1/32 or smaller tolerance. Hard to set up? Find yourself recalibrating without changing the blade? Hard to recalibrate after you change blades? How accurate is it and down to what increment will it go? 1/32, 1/64 or even 1/128?

Saw Fence Digital Readout

We use the Accurate Technology digital readouts. These go to thousandths (actually even to 1/2 ten-thousandths) at 3 places right of the decimal.

They have made for a quiet revolution in the shop in accuracy improvement and repeatability. 1,000% reliable and trustworthy. They are easy to reset, but it is rare to need to. We have them on planer, shapers, mortiser, and tenoner. Very easy to read. The only complaint I can come up with is that you need to have AA batteries on hand at all times since you get so dependent upon them that you can't work when the batteries run out.

They are more expensive than the Wixey, but they easily pay for themselves in gained accuracy and ease of use.

David, you didnt say that you have it on ur tablesaw. Did i miss something?

You are right - I do not have one on the tablesaw. It is on my wish list, but so is a new Sawstop, so I have held off. The table saw is not counted upon in our work for super accuracy like the other items, so it is a bit lower on the priority list.

The DRO's pricing vary with the length of the reader stick. I paid just over $300 per unit for the last 3-4 I bought.

Their website has a woodworking section that suggests uses, and their phone tech help is also good.

ProScale by Accurate Technology

I have the Wixey fence gauge and when I first installed it, it worked great. After a year or so it started to lose calibration while moving the fence. In some cases it loses it's calibration a dozen times in one job making it very annoying. If it would have kept working as it did in the beginning it is a great system. 5 thou is more then accurate enough for just about any job that you are using a tablesaw for.

I do believe that one of my strips is damaged, which is the cause of the loss of calibration. I cannot see any damage, but the design of the system puts the strip in harms way.

My friend has the Pro Scale and it doesn't lose calibration. But it also makes it hard to remove the fence easily. With the Wixey and the magnet system you just lift the fence off and when you are ready put it back on and slide the digital unit against the stop and the magnet grabs back on and it doesn't lose calibration.

U arent making it easy leo! Lol. I rarely have a need to remove my fence completely, so maybe ill just go with a more expensive unit and not have to worry about issues.

I remove my fence a lot. Makes it very easy to do so. The accuracy is more than good enough. The calibration issue is annoying, but before I had any issues I was happy as a clam. I'm thinking of getting a new set of rails and replacing my old ones.

I've had the ProScale for several years now. The only time it's lost calibration is when the batteries need replaced.

I'd purchase it again.

i have the wixey also and like leo said it worked fine but after about a year or so it goes out of calibration. i don't think it is my rails because even without sliding, it if it sits in the same spot overnight it won't zero out against the blade and i have to re set it. It does not seem to go out while sliding it.
but like leo said when it was new it worked great.

I have had the accurate tech read out on my industrial sawstop in my shop for 4 yrs now. Works perfect every day of steady use. Just have to change the batteries once a year and check calibration at that time. I'd buy it again.

Two of my Accurate Proscales are over 10 years old. They work as good as on the first day. One did require new battery clips after a battery leaked and corroded them. These clips are flimsy in my opinion, but they do work, and work well.

Great product. Use it all of the time when my clients hire me to create a custom wood fence for them. Super precise.

  • WOODWEB is a professional industrial woodworking site. Hobbyist and homeowner woodworking questions are inappropriate.
  • Messages should be kept reasonably short and on topic, relating to the focus of the forum. Responses should relate to the original question.
  • A valid email return address must be included with each message.
  • Advertising is inappropriate. The only exceptions are the Classified Ads Exchange, Machinery Exchange, Lumber Exchange, and Job Opportunities and Services Exchange. When posting listings in these areas, review the posting instructions carefully.

WOODWEB's forums are a highly regarded resource for professional woodworkers. Messages and responses that are crafted in a professional and civil manner strengthen this resource. Messages that do not reflect a professional tone reduce the value of our forums.

Messages are inappropriate when their content: is deemed libelous in nature or is based on rumor, fails to meet basic standards of decorum, contains blatant advertising or inappropriate emphasis on self promotion (return to top).

Libel:   Posts which defame an individual or organization, or employ a tone which can be viewed as malicious in nature. Words, pictures, or cartoons which expose a person or organization to public hatred, shame, disgrace, or ridicule, or induce an ill opinion of a person or organization, are libelous.

Improper Decorum:   Posts which are profane, inciting, disrespectful or uncivil in tone, or maliciously worded. This also includes the venting of unsubstantiated opinions. Such messages do little to illuminate a given topic, and often have the opposite effect. Constructive criticism is acceptable (return to top).

Advertising:   The purpose of WOODWEB Forums is to provide answers, not an advertising venue. Companies participating in a Forum discussion should provide specific answers to posted questions. WOODWEB suggests that businesses include an appropriately crafted signature in order to identify their company. A well meaning post that seems to be on-topic but contains a product reference may do your business more harm than good in the Forum environment. Forum users may perceive your references to specific products as unsolicited advertising (spam) and consciously avoid your web site or services. A well-crafted signature is an appropriate way to advertise your services that will not offend potential customers. Signatures should be limited to 4-6 lines, and may contain information that identifies the type of business you're in, your URL and email address (return to top).

Repeated Forum Abuse: Forum participants who repeatedly fail to follow WOODWEB's Forum Guidelines may encounter difficulty when attempting to post messages.

There are often situations when the original message asks for opinions: "What is the best widget for my type of shop?". To a certain extent, the person posting the message is responsible for including specific questions within the message. An open ended question (like the one above) invites responses that may read as sales pitches. WOODWEB suggests that companies responding to such a question provide detailed and substantive replies rather than responses that read as a one-sided product promotion. It has been WOODWEB's experience that substantive responses are held in higher regard by our readers (return to top).
