Large MDF door ?
6/18/17
Hi
On an upcoming project I have a cabinet with double 2'x8' doors, veneer core. I suspect, a door of this size would warp immensely, so the question is how to make this cabinet to keep the full overlay look and a straight door.
Is there a company in NJ that could laminate a regular slab with supplied veneer?
Thanks,
Luca

I'd suggest veneering the doors on a hollow, torsion box, core.It would keep building the cabinet sides up for weight to a minimum; as well as reduce door weight, fewer hinges etc.

3/4'' or 1'' thick MDF with Maple Veneer. Husky have a great MDF core product.

Veneer core is an invite to a potato chip door! MDF would be more stable but heavy.

If getting it custom laid up you can use ultra light MDF for the core.

You could get MDF core plywood and edgeband it. It's readily available in most popular species. I recently got 3/4" quartered walnut from Atlantic Plywood for a little over $100 a sheet. A-grade faces and super flat. My largest door was 24x61, so I can't vouch for going to 8'.
