Removing Scratches from a Prefinished Maple Plywood Bookcase
3/20/18
Hey folks!
I'm a student and Eastern Maine Community College and I recently decided to make a bookcase out of Prefinished Maple Plywood. During the assembly process I marred the UV finish that is present on the prefinished plywood and my question was as to how I could rebuild this finish without proper access to a sprayer?
Is there a way to sand the finish with a micro abrasive that doesnt lose its metallic abrasive in the process of sanding that discolors the wood.
If so what particular brand is it and where should I look.
Should I use Paste wax
Some of these scratches have removed the glossy finish and I'd like to know If I could simply sand it with some 2000 grit or higher and then buff it.
Maybe I could take it completely off and apply a poly based finish.

I wouldn't worry about the scratches, it's going to get used anyway? If you feel the need, sand it out and find someone to spray it. You don't have to sand the finish off, just smooth it.

I use the fine abranet pads to polish a mar on a clear.
The p1000 gives you a satin and the p2000 gives you a gloss. No buffing needed these do a great job.
Some scratches are too deep for this and sanding and refinishing is needed.
You could also veneer it or use an applied panel.

One of the best finishers I know, would take some stuff called wolwax, and the finest steel wool you can get and give it a buff, it will get rid of any scratches that aren't to deep.
