Line Boring Machine12/2
I have a small Line Boring machine that I mostly use for end boring, However I was playing around with it an was trying to do some longer gables for shelf holes. It works really well for base cabinets and upper cabinets, but is a pain for doing 6-8 ft gables.
Usually there is a reference pin that you stick into a hole so you continue with proper spacing.
Last post was correct in using the registration pin. Even better, is to use a longer fence with flip stops, if you set the stops in mm multiples of the distance between the bits, the holes will always line up without a missed step, we have our double line machine set up this way and it is more accurate than using the pop up or push down pins .
I have the Delta 13 hole machine I bore 13 holes and push the pin in the last hole and continue works good. I have never had any luck with the stops on each end of the table. I have me a jig made to mark my starting hole on each side and push my index pin down on the line and go.
Thanks for the help.I find the fence to be very inaccurate. It works great for gables where you require 21 or less holes, but larger gables are a pain. I think the answer may be to permanently join the fence as it breaks down into 3 pieces and put a new taped on measure for it.
Jeff, the best machine for line boring is a double line machine. They are all pretty much the same . I have a Detel. We drill both front and back holes at same time and the fence has adjustable stops which we set in 32mm increments with a story stick . Set your first fence and then put the stick after it to set next stop. We can bore an 8 Ď closet panel in seconds with complete accuracy. If the stoppers are set in multiples of 32mm itís impossible to make an error. Our front line is set at 37mm for hinge plates and first drawer slide hole . The second fence is set at the depth needed for whichever slide you are using. Insert sludecwirh 5mm Euro screws and itís always perfectly square to gable .
