Don't know about the trial but I've been using it since it became available. I do several kitchens a week with it.

To dropout. I am pretty green to all design programs. I would like your over all opinion of Cabinet Sense. Do you find that it is flexible enough to do custom work. Do you run a cnc with it or just manual operations. Are there any pointers that you could give a newbie in order to get a jump start?

Don't know what yo mean by custom but I regularly do angled and tapered cabinets.

CNC only. I didn't own a table saw for the first 2 years of business.

Not sure what to suggest to make it easier. Sorry.

Jonathan,

I am a one man custom cabinet shop. Everything I do is custom and requires special changes. I now use Cabinet Vision and have for about 5 years..

I used CabinetPro for several years and tried KCD. Back then, neither worked for me. Just couldn't edit a cabinet as much as I needed. Cabinet Vision solved that for me. BUT! Cabinet Vision has a very steep learning curve and is expensive. Enough said about Cabinet Vision.

I suspect you too need to be able to edit an individual cabinet right down to each part. Can CabinetSense do this? I watched a few videos. It looks like it is based on Sketchup. If that is the case, can you edit a cabinet in Sketchup and import back to CabinetSense? If so, it looks promising. I like the idea of renting also. You can walk away if not satisfied. How is support? I have found that support is everything with a program that runs my business. I pay $1000.00 a year, but it can be a life saver.

Just some thoughts here. Hope it works for you.

What editing do you want to do?

The top RTA display units are mine. The other stuff on the page is way cooler though.

Dropout,

I do a lot of one of a kind cabinets. With islands, it is not unusual to have multiple faces. Many times all four faces. I can make it with one cabinet, use the back as a divider, so the drawer guides keep their intelligence. Control the openings, Add parts, change parts, edit the parts, change the materials used for each part.

If it can be drawn in pencil, I can do it in Cabinet Vision. And then all goes to the cut list and assembly sheets. I feel the only limitation is my imagination.

So the ability to edit parts and cabinets is very important to custom cabinets.

Post a pic - I'll see if I can do it.

The cabinet on the right is 1 cabinet with two faces and a partition separating the sections. Cabinet has kept intelligence and can be changes in size in any direction, still keeping the section proportion .

PolyBoard looks pretty cool. can you work in imperial or metric only. the only thing I saw lacking in the demonstrations was the ability to add wall stiles to the cabinetry, is this possible? What does the cost convert to here in the states

5/21/15       #15: CabinetSense ...

can work with inches
what do you mean "to add wall stiles"?
about cost ,what machine do you use,and what level do you need(nesting ,beam saw, only cut list....)

wall stiles or "scribes" to fit to the wall so you get a tight fit with the cabinet. Right now I would just need to design and cutlist, but I am looking into nested cnc so would need that option as well

do you mean that its like "magnet"?

No how do you get a tight fit between two walls without a scribe. No two walls are ever plumb with each other so you would have to undersize the cabinets or have a stile which you could trim to fit

you can asighn 2 element in the project
its can be 2 cabinet or cabinet and wall
then right click ,add filler

So how do you handle 2 sided machining with cabinetsense or polyboard?

2/20/17       #21: CabinetSense ...

CS has an option for one side drilling. I use that. For instance, a partition with drawers on one side and doors on the other will drill from the drawer side and the drawer boxes and slides will hide the fact that the hinge holes are all the way through.

hi woodshop
in pb package (we sell pb+knest as one package)you can chose any method you want:
1. first cut then each part need to drill by

individual program with bar-code
2.grove+drill first back side then add 2 line
as refernce then rotate all "big panel "
drill + groove first side then nest
3.cut dril first dise ,then export to second
cnc like ptp programs for driling ,grovng..
4. merge the drilling that have same
position on both sides as one side threw
drill

FORUM GUIDELINES: Please review the guidelines below before posting at WOODWEB's Interactive Message Boards (return to top)

  • WOODWEB is a professional industrial woodworking site. Hobbyist and homeowner woodworking questions are inappropriate.
  • Messages should be kept reasonably short and on topic, relating to the focus of the forum. Responses should relate to the original question.
  • A valid email return address must be included with each message.
  • Advertising is inappropriate. The only exceptions are the Classified Ads Exchange, Machinery Exchange, Lumber Exchange, and Job Opportunities and Services Exchange. When posting listings in these areas, review the posting instructions carefully.
  • Subject lines may be edited for length and clarity.
  • "Cross posting" is not permitted. Choose the best forum for your question, and post your question at one forum only.
  • Messages requesting private responses will be removed - Forums are designed to provide information and assistance for all of our visitors. Private response requests are appropriate at WOODWEB's Exchanges and Job Opportunities and Services.
  • Messages that accuse businesses or individuals of alleged negative actions or behavior are inappropriate since WOODWEB is unable to verify or substantiate the claims.
  • Posts with the intent of soliciting answers to surveys are not appropriate. Contact WOODWEB for more information on initiating a survey.
  • Excessive forum participation by an individual upsets the balance of a healthy forum atmosphere. Individuals who excessively post responses containing marginal content will be considered repeat forum abusers.
  • Responses that initiate or support inappropriate and off-topic discussion of general politics detract from the professional woodworking focus of WOODWEB, and will be removed.
  • Participants are encouraged to use their real name when posting. Intentionally using another persons name is prohibited, and posts of this nature will be removed at WOODWEB's discretion.

WOODWEB's forums are a highly regarded resource for professional woodworkers. Messages and responses that are crafted in a professional and civil manner strengthen this resource. Messages that do not reflect a professional tone reduce the value of our forums.

Messages are inappropriate when their content: is deemed libelous in nature or is based on rumor, fails to meet basic standards of decorum, contains blatant advertising or inappropriate emphasis on self promotion (return to top).

Libel:   Posts which defame an individual or organization, or employ a tone which can be viewed as malicious in nature. Words, pictures, or cartoons which expose a person or organization to public hatred, shame, disgrace, or ridicule, or induce an ill opinion of a person or organization, are libelous.

Improper Decorum:   Posts which are profane, inciting, disrespectful or uncivil in tone, or maliciously worded. This also includes the venting of unsubstantiated opinions. Such messages do little to illuminate a given topic, and often have the opposite effect. Constructive criticism is acceptable (return to top).

Advertising:   The purpose of WOODWEB Forums is to provide answers, not an advertising venue. Companies participating in a Forum discussion should provide specific answers to posted questions. WOODWEB suggests that businesses include an appropriately crafted signature in order to identify their company. A well meaning post that seems to be on-topic but contains a product reference may do your business more harm than good in the Forum environment. Forum users may perceive your references to specific products as unsolicited advertising (spam) and consciously avoid your web site or services. A well-crafted signature is an appropriate way to advertise your services that will not offend potential customers. Signatures should be limited to 4-6 lines, and may contain information that identifies the type of business you're in, your URL and email address (return to top).

Repeated Forum Abuse: Forum participants who repeatedly fail to follow WOODWEB's Forum Guidelines may encounter difficulty when attempting to post messages.

There are often situations when the original message asks for opinions: "What is the best widget for my type of shop?". To a certain extent, the person posting the message is responsible for including specific questions within the message. An open ended question (like the one above) invites responses that may read as sales pitches. WOODWEB suggests that companies responding to such a question provide detailed and substantive replies rather than responses that read as a one-sided product promotion. It has been WOODWEB's experience that substantive responses are held in higher regard by our readers (return to top).
