I am currently working on a project that requires lots of milling on the face of a sheet of 5x10 MDF. I cannot post a picture of the product as I am under a confidentiality agreement but I will explain as best as I can.
Each 5x10 panel is first cut into 4 quadrants with a 3/8" compression bit. Then I am using a 1/4" downshear bit to mill concentric circles in the face of each panel. The circles start in the center and grow outward. Each pass is a diffreent depth- usually stepping up or down by either 1/8" or a 1/16". The end result is profile that looks like a lot of little stair cases. Each 5x10 panel takes about 4hrs to mill- just to give you an idea of extensive the milling is.
So far the panels are great in every way except one- the MDF is very fuzzy wherever it is cut. I have been using brand new tooling from Vortex and I have tried using a couple different brands of MDF. As I said earlier, the bit is a 1/4" downshear and I am running conventional cuts at 18000 rpm and 300 in/min.
Any advice on how to reduce the fuzziness would be appreciated. I am a pretty new at this- just got my first CNC at the end of last year.
