I am finishing again and I used to use the Lynx 300H, I liked that set up very much. We have a bunch of them. I was talked into replacing them with cat CPR guns which are compliant. I really donít care if they are compliant. We have had them several years and I believe the older Lynx 300H is just simply a much better gun.
Do not laugh at me, I also like the Binks Mach 1 guns I have 5-6 or them as well. I have always liked the way they spray but the newer guns have better transfer efficiency.
What does everyone feel is the best guns out there right now? I am a pressure pot guy. We have too many of them to change right now. Most of my bros use the newer pumps with air assisted airless. So I can stay within my skill set for right now please advice on typical guns. These guns have changed a lot since I was in the shop daily. But the finishes have changed even more.
Maybe thatís worth mentioning. Our standard clear process is a precat quick dry high solids vinyl seller from ML. Typically a couple of coats sanding between then one or two top coats of precat manamax. I am also a very big fan of conversion varnish when the project needs something a bit tougher. I love the look of conversion varnish; nothing else has that look to it. These are the typical applications; we use many different things for different situations as all of you do.
here is my take, each of the gun mfg has every competive gun that is available, i would say most all the guns are very close, if you have had good luck with cat stay with it, i like them i especially like there new x catagory guns,
i understand your comfort zone, but moving to aaa is very easy and you will put about 15-20 cetns of every coating dollar back in your pocket, i am not trying to break your ...... just a thought
the guns seem to evolve more in terms of ergonomics as well as atomization but teh fit and feel of guns is getting better,
go out in the shop and huff some fumes, it will make your day go quicker.......lol
have a good holiday
I'm not an expert and haven't used many guns, but I've been using a CAT AAA for maybe 3 years now and can't imagine anything being better than that.....well except maybe having a robot doing the finishing:>)
I have the Bobcat gun with it and it works great....but I haven't had the chance to try the other guns so doesn't help you much.
I have both the lynx 100h & the slp, both are good and super durable guns. I prefer the sip with the CPR cap...go figure. It's no wonder that you like the Binks Mach 1 guns too as these CAT guns are almost exact copies of the Binks gun, to the point that the 100h has interchangable parts.
As Jeff D said, get an AAA pump. I have a CAT and a binks.....hands down the CAT is the better pump. Binks is always blowing gaskets and pissing air. Get a CAT or Kremlin and be very happy.
get an AAA and use conversion varnish. use it as self sealer.
