hickory table tops7/24
recently took a job where hickory with heavy character was requested, Table tops and bar top were fabricated out of this hickory. Two coats of catylyzed leveling sealer were applied with two coats of Magnamax topcoat. Now i am told that because of health department requirements....i need to fill in all knots and crevices.....preferably clear.....any input would be appreciated.
I fill the knots prior to finishing 2 different ways;
Another issue would be the use of Magnamax for a bar finish. Magnamax is a pre-cat lacquer. Why didn't you use Krystal?
Clear casting resin is about the only "clear". Epoxy has an amber cast. No idea how compatible it will be. I agree, precat is not a finish for commercial use!
I use epoxy mixed with wood flour to thicken it. It comes out a little darker than the heart wood. I coat with conversion varnish.
I use level sealer a post cat product from mlcambel.you can build 15 mill before standing. Awesome for filling any open grain and knots. I'm nit sure if you would be able to put it on top of manamax.give me a shout if you want more info . 1 207 272 6590
Sorry, i was mistaken......i used two coats of acid catalyzed level sealer with two coats krystal satin topcoat......problem is sealer in deep areas turned slightly milky
You will need to sand off the extra epoxy filler before you start finishing to get all the crevasses.
