screw base cabinets to studs or not12/20
I was marking out the studs, shimming at those points and screwing a run of base cabinets to every stud I could get to easily when my employer told me to just toenail a screw into the drywall at each end of the run. I protested and he explained that with all the cabinets connected and countertop installed that they would not move.
I would never ever install cabinets in that manner, but it's my reputation I have to protect. If your boss says to do a half assed job then by all means go for it. It's not your reputation, it's not your liability, and he's the one signing the check!
Jeff hit it- do like the guy signing the check wants- after all, when things go south, he'll have to pay you to do it again. FWIW, you were doing the job right.
I'm screwing to the studs. Especially the end of the run cabinet.
We screw to the studs, maybe not every one.
What a dumbass.....What is he gaining by not having you secure the cabinets properly, a few minutes labor at the very back end of the job?? I don't understand how some people stay in business!
Thom, you know what you need to do. Conscientious employees are not easy to come by, will always be valued in the market, and sleep well at night.
I totally agree with Jeff ! If your boss have told you to do it his way then he must have something in mind. Just go for it.
