Thick door hardware question4/30
Hello, I'm making some 1/2" overlay cabinet doors out of 1" thick material with 1/4" lumber core plywood panels. Doors are 85" tall x 20" wide. Looking into Blum hardware, there seems to be only a few options for doors of this thickness and size. What hinges should I use for doors this large? Are 3 or 4 hinges per door necessary? Thanks for any advice. I'm a furniture maker who has walked into a cabinet job, so I'm in the dark! I've installed blum hinges in the past with good success. Thanks again!
You should not have an issue with Blum. Their 110 degree hinge with blumotion is designed for 1" doors. Their 95 degree thick door hinge is designed for up to 1 3/16". I would also consider 4 hinges for a door this size.
Blum and all other manufacturers have call outs for quantity of hinges dependent on height, and some also call out weight. I believe all of them will call out 5 hinges for anything over 84" or so. Salice goes to 5 at 84"-96" so your right at it.
