Cabinets Installation Estimating

My husband's uncle is a cabinet maker and he asked my husband to start installing cabinets for him. My husband has installed cabinets for the company he worked for, but he is now on his own and he didn't do any of the estimating. Can you recommend a process to follow, classes to take or if anyone would be willing to share their estimating process or direct me to someone that is willing to help, I would greatly appreciate it.

Heather that is a difficult question to answer but he should have an idea what it takes to do installs time wise from memory. Ballpark the number of days plus add in all the fasteners that one typically needs, plus the special tools.
If you have to buys some tools spread the cost over say 5 jobs.
You can calculate hours and then multiply what you want to get paid.
So for example;
20' of lowers and uppers takes 9 hours to install.
Add fuel and travel time one way
Add fasteners and gizmos
Add time for odd or complex cabinets
Add in if they have to be unpacked or moved.
You should do ok with that.

We use this rule of thumb.

Easy jobs -ie basic crown standard details - 15% of job total is install charge

Hard jobs -ie LED lighting integrated , multi layer crown, lots of trim and elevation changes - 18-20% of job total.
