Problems with Wilsonart 1730 contact adhesive1/19
Is anyone else out there having problems with Wilsonart 1731 (red) or 1730 (clear) contact adhesive? Our shop in PA began using it in April 2012. Out of the blue (as in the infamous Wilsonart blue glue), in the past 2 weeks we've received reports of delamination at 7 different jobs that we did in 2013 and 2014. That's about $150k worth of counters and station walls. Wilsonart is blaming us for spraying at too high a pressure and leaving it open too long - none of which we knew about until last week because there was never any training. And it's blaming the customers for lacking humidity control. Odd though, that the glue worked for 3 to 4 years.
Yes, we are having similar issues in the same time frame that you mentioned and are being told the same response. We have been building laminate cabinets and countertops for 20yrs with no problems until now.
A few shops have contacted me directly about 1730 issues, and I've responded directly. But for those who are following this adhesive catastrophe, here's an update:
We are having the same issues. We also started using the glue in 2012 and had no problems with those jobs! For the last year, everything we did in 2014 is delaminating. This is a major expense for us. I have also had other local shops contact me with the same issues in the same time frame. Can we all get together on this and do something? This may put a lot of shops out of business. Same song and dance from Wilsonart......of course they are not at fault! I have a sample I made when we first started using the glue. It has been sitting in the shop office window. No problems with that! Just jobs in 2014.
Hello, I came across this thread and I was wondering if anyone was ever able to get any relief from Wilsonart and if a lawsuit was filed and in what state. Also, I was wondering if the expert mentioned above ever issued an opinion on the adhesive.
