here is what homemade oak shingles look like. don't ever remember seeing oak shingles before. i read about how they use to use oaks for shingles though. they use to make oak shingles froma tree called shingle oak.

They are black oak and chestnut oak. chestnut oak I used on the other side thats not in the picture.

There is about 150 board feet in shingles on the roof. The building is 6'x6' and I figured I have about 600 board feet in the building now.

Shingle oak is a red oak. Have only seen one in my life. As a woodworker, had to wonder about a red oak being used for shingles.
