Anyone have plans/suggestions for making an electric or small engine powered mill for sawing sawmill slabs into firewood? I saw logs into lumber and would like to saw the slab wood into stove size wood for neighbors.... Help!
I cut mine up with a chainsaw and sale it for firewood.
Probably not what you're looking for, but I stack the slabs on a trailer with a wood bed and cut them to length with a chain saw. Goes very quickly. The quickest splitter is the SuperSplit, but there is one called the "Tempest" that is an interesting design. An automated system would be ideal.
I might suggest that you build a "cradle" for your slabs and out boards using either a few palettes and some vertical posts, or some leftover slabs themselves.
You might be able to place the cradle so that you can make it easy to collect up the cut pieces. I.e., place a bin or your truck bed underneath to catch them as they are cut down to size.
