Hi all hope your having a great day
I am looking to purchase a hot veneer press
And i want to ask u the diffrence between
aluminum and steel plate if any one can clearify the diffrence between them
What is the best cover for those plate
And do i have to cover both aluminum and steel
and if u can give me your openion to help me choose
Hope you can help me with that

Hi.
We had aluminium plates and then change them with steal plates when they got damaged.
Steal plates are a lot easier to clean and if you are gluing thin veneers the panels are a lot easier to remove from the press.

Steel plates will last much longer than aluminum. Aluminum is a soft metal so damaging your platens is much easier. I know, I've used both over the years and have pressed putty knives, razor blades , screws and the steel platens were barely dinged where the aluminum was noticeably damaged . Mylar is probably your best bet for covering and protecting your platens. It's a bit on the pricey side but well worth it.
