In need of the .AC File Format for the G57 Panel Saw

Website: http://www.cabinetpro.com

One of our customers has a G57 Panel Saw from Giben. For almost a year now we have been trying to get the file format for the required .AC file in order for Cabinet Pro software to automatically write to it for our customer. This is not a difficult process. We can implement just about ANY post into Cabinet Pro in a few days, as long as we know what file format to use. The problem is that everytime we speak to someone at Giben's technical support, we get a different answer, or get a file format for machines that are no longer being made! Three months ago, our customer finally received the "correct" file format and sent it to us. I implemented it within Cabinet Pro in a few days and sent it back to Giben for a final check. The answer was that the file format was a different machine than what the customer had! The customer and I were both irritated and so we had a very serious 3-way conversation with Giben's tech support. He promised to have the correct file format in both of our email boxes within 24 hours...

...It's been about two months now and we still haven't heard from them! Our customer called Giben again and now we are being told that they don't know where to get the file format for this G57 Panel Saw! So this finally brings me to my question: is there anyone out there who has the .AC file format for the NEWER G57 Panel Saw from Giben? If you need more details about this particular machine, contact me and I can give you our customer's name and number. Your help would be GREATLY appreciated!

As a side note, I give technical support on a daily basis to Cabinet Pro and Door Pro users. So this lack of technical knowledge by a machinery "support" team is truly maddening!

Frank,
I don't know if this is any different than what you have.

I have some emails from about 6 years ago when we came across this, our problem was the format wouldn't accept more than 99 parts so part 101 messed up the cutting instructions.

I think you need an AD file for the inventory sizes. The AD file can contain only one material type but can contain different size boards.

A-

Giben America AC File Format 1/1
The AC file is Giben's import/export file format. It contains the cutting
pattern data for one material. This is termed a JOB in OPTISAVE.

The file consisits of ASCII text, undelimited, fixed-field format with filename
extension AC (filename.AC)

Example:
0 1 2 3 4

In the above example, the first line is the HEADLINE and the subsequent lines
are pattern data lines. The first two fields MUST be the same on ALL lines!

Explanation:

HEADLINE

Alan,
Thank you for the attempt. I appreciate your efforts!

I have the .AD file, for it has not changed from older machines. It is the .AC file that is the problem. The old .AC file has 37 non-delimited characters, while the new one has over 100 characters (I think). It's the new format that I need. (Both .AD and .AC files require headers.)

Alan,
The pdf file you provided above is the exact same file structure I implemented into Cabinet Pro. When a cutlist is generated within Cabinet Pro, the AD and AC headers AND data files are generated perfectly. But when those files were sent to Giben, the response was that the format we are using from that pdf file is for their older machine, not the newer G57 that our customer has. :(

Frank,
Can they create a simple pattern on the saw and send you the .ac and ad files?

Hi Alan,

We have to know what each value in the AC file is and how many characters are required. So unfortunately, just getting a sample of the output files won't work. We need the file format requirements. I was working with Weinig America about a month ago implementing their MillVision file format into Cabinet Pro and had it done in one day. Their tech support was great and they knew what information was required in their data files. This experience, however, is far different.

This is a sample of an AC file produced by Cabinet Pro....but it is not correct for our customer's machine. :(

Alan F.

I think you need an ac file for each material type color combination, that file looks like 3 materials.

Hi Alan,

No, a HEADER is needed for each material. The longer lines in that code are the headers, separating the different materials, and the lines afterwards are the data fields for that material. The UV1 material had 12 spaces past it because the material file requires that 15 spaces are used up.... but they disappeared when I cut & pasted.

Anyway, for each batch of parts, one AD file and one AC file are required. Cabinet Pro produces the kind of file YOUR machine uses, but not the kind of file our customer's machine uses. The difference is that instead of using 37 characters, it uses a bunch more. :(

Frank,
When Giben sent us sample data, they sent pairs of ac and ad files. We produce an ac and ad file for each material / face/back color combination.
Is there a paramteron the saw to take old style files?

Hi Eddy,

Thank you very much! I will contact you directly with the customer's name & email so that you might get the information about his machine that you need.

I am currently working with another customer who has the same machine and we are trying to figure out the AC file thru trial and error. I think we are having success and will be happy to share that with you.

FORUM GUIDELINES: Please review the guidelines below before posting at WOODWEB's Interactive Message Boards (return to top)

  • WOODWEB is a professional industrial woodworking site. Hobbyist and homeowner woodworking questions are inappropriate.
  • Messages should be kept reasonably short and on topic, relating to the focus of the forum. Responses should relate to the original question.
  • A valid email return address must be included with each message.
  • Advertising is inappropriate. The only exceptions are the Classified Ads Exchange, Machinery Exchange, Lumber Exchange, and Job Opportunities and Services Exchange. When posting listings in these areas, review the posting instructions carefully.
  • Subject lines may be edited for length and clarity.
  • "Cross posting" is not permitted. Choose the best forum for your question, and post your question at one forum only.
  • Messages requesting private responses will be removed - Forums are designed to provide information and assistance for all of our visitors. Private response requests are appropriate at WOODWEB's Exchanges and Job Opportunities and Services.
  • Messages that accuse businesses or individuals of alleged negative actions or behavior are inappropriate since WOODWEB is unable to verify or substantiate the claims.
  • Posts with the intent of soliciting answers to surveys are not appropriate. Contact WOODWEB for more information on initiating a survey.
  • Excessive forum participation by an individual upsets the balance of a healthy forum atmosphere. Individuals who excessively post responses containing marginal content will be considered repeat forum abusers.
  • Responses that initiate or support inappropriate and off-topic discussion of general politics detract from the professional woodworking focus of WOODWEB, and will be removed.
  • Participants are encouraged to use their real name when posting. Intentionally using another persons name is prohibited, and posts of this nature will be removed at WOODWEB's discretion.
  • Comments, questions, or criticisms regarding Forum policies should be directed to WOODWEB's Systems Administrator
    (return to top).

Carefully review your message before clicking on the "Send Message" button - you will not be able to revise the message once it has been sent.

You will be notified of responses to the message(s) you posted via email. Be sure to enter your email address correctly.

WOODWEB's forums are a highly regarded resource for professional woodworkers. Messages and responses that are crafted in a professional and civil manner strengthen this resource. Messages that do not reflect a professional tone reduce the value of our forums.

Messages are inappropriate when their content: is deemed libelous in nature or is based on rumor, fails to meet basic standards of decorum, contains blatant advertising or inappropriate emphasis on self promotion (return to top).

Libel:   Posts which defame an individual or organization, or employ a tone which can be viewed as malicious in nature. Words, pictures, or cartoons which expose a person or organization to public hatred, shame, disgrace, or ridicule, or induce an ill opinion of a person or organization, are libelous.

Improper Decorum:   Posts which are profane, inciting, disrespectful or uncivil in tone, or maliciously worded. This also includes the venting of unsubstantiated opinions. Such messages do little to illuminate a given topic, and often have the opposite effect. Constructive criticism is acceptable (return to top).

Advertising:   The purpose of WOODWEB Forums is to provide answers, not an advertising venue. Companies participating in a Forum discussion should provide specific answers to posted questions. WOODWEB suggests that businesses include an appropriately crafted signature in order to identify their company. A well meaning post that seems to be on-topic but contains a product reference may do your business more harm than good in the Forum environment. Forum users may perceive your references to specific products as unsolicited advertising (spam) and consciously avoid your web site or services. A well-crafted signature is an appropriate way to advertise your services that will not offend potential customers. Signatures should be limited to 4-6 lines, and may contain information that identifies the type of business you're in, your URL and email address (return to top).

Repeated Forum Abuse: Forum participants who repeatedly fail to follow WOODWEB's Forum Guidelines may encounter difficulty when attempting to post messages.

There are often situations when the original message asks for opinions: "What is the best widget for my type of shop?". To a certain extent, the person posting the message is responsible for including specific questions within the message. An open ended question (like the one above) invites responses that may read as sales pitches. WOODWEB suggests that companies responding to such a question provide detailed and substantive replies rather than responses that read as a one-sided product promotion. It has been WOODWEB's experience that substantive responses are held in higher regard by our readers (return to top).

The staff of WOODWEB assume no responsibility for the accuracy, content, or outcome of any posting transmitted at WOODWEB's Message Boards. Participants should undertake the use of machinery, materials and methods discussed at WOODWEB's Message Boards after considerate evaluation, and at their own risk. WOODWEB reserves the right to delete any messages it deems inappropriate. (return to top)
