Position Overview
We are seeking an analytical and detail-oriented Millwork Estimator to prepare accurate, competitive, and profitable bids. You will be responsible for reviewing architectural drawings, performing material takeoffs, and determining labor and production costs for custom projects ranging from $5,000 to $1M+.
Key Responsibilities
• Blueprint Reading: Review and interpret architectural blueprints, interior drawings, and specifications to identify all millwork items.
• Quantity Takeoffs: Perform accurate measurements and takeoffs from scratch, breaking down millwork into individual pieces and components.
• Cost Analysis: Assign accurate fabrication, finish, and installation times without relying solely on pre-determined formulas.
• Vendor Procurement: Request and analyze supplier and specialty subcontractor quotes for materials, hardware, and finishes.
• Bid Preparation: Prepare clear, professional bid summaries and proposals to be submitted to general contractors and clients.
• Project Hand-off: Successfully coordinate with internal project managers and shop leadership to ensure project requirements and budgets are clearly transitioned upon winning a bid.
Qualifications & Requirements
• Experience: Minimum of 2 years of dedicated experience in architectural millwork, casework, or custom furniture estimating.
• Software Proficiency: Strong expertise in Microsoft Excel and digital tools like Dropbox, PlanHub, BuildingConnected.
• Industry Knowledge: Deep understanding of construction methods, AWI standards, and specialty materials (wood, plastic laminates, solid surface, etc.).
• Soft Skills: Ability to manage multiple bids simultaneously while meeting strict, high-pressure deadlines.
