Description
Looking for a shop that can both machine and finish flat MDF panels on an ongoing basis. I supply drawings and DXF files; you cut, machine, finish and pack. Nothing gets assembled at your end.
The product is a knock-down cover, four flat panels per unit: a front with a machined face, two mirrored side panels, and a top. 3/4in Medex preferred, standard 3/4in MDF acceptable. Largest panel is about 50 x 24in. Sizes change with every order, so this suits a shop set up for custom work rather than a fixed production run.
MACHINING: through-slots with radiused ends on one front style, a pocketed recessed shaker panel on the other. Through-tenon tabs into mortises. 15mm blind cam bores at 34mm setout, 8mm dowel bolt holes into the panel edges, 10 per unit. If your standard cam setout differs, tell me and I will regenerate the files to yours.
FINISHING: sand faces to 180 grit, seal and fill all cut edges, prime, plus two color coats where a color is specified. Some units are primed only. One front has eighteen machined through-slots and the slot interiors have to be finished the same as the faces. That is where the labor is and I would rather pay properly for it than have it done badly. Cam bores and mortises must stay free of paint build or the parts will not assemble.
PACKING: flat-packed by parcel, blind, hardware bagged per unit. I can supply the carton spec.
Volume is four units now with customers waiting, growing, repeat monthly.
Tell me your per-unit or per-square-foot rate, whether the finishing is in house or subbed, your minimum charge per piece, lead time, and whether you can ship or drop-ship. Photos of painted work appreciated. I will send drawings to anyone who wants to look.
