Alex,
Nice work, was this bar finished at the shop or on site? CV or 2K Poly?

Tomasz,
Thanks, the finish was applied at the shop, actually an adjacent building where we do our finishing. It was done in 39 separate pieces layed out flat for finish then reassembled on site. The finish is hand applied alkyd base varnish, armor seal by general finishes.

Looks great. I apprasied a "Baldwin Back bar", ya, the same as the piano company from the 1890's. Looks similar. Please keep us updated.

Excelent craftsmanship. I'm building a similar project on a smaller scale, and I'm interested in what you used for the bar top. I'm considering Mirror Coat epoxy from System Three but in doing some research I've been getting mixed reviews. My bar top is going to be made from Maple and the client wants a high gloss finish with a lot of depth. Any sugestions would be greatly appreciated.

Thank You
Rick

Hi Rick, Glad you like the bar, I almost forgot it was posted there, must be
two years ago now. I used a satin alkyd base varnish on the bar without
grain filler so the texture of the wood is visible at a low angle. Maple
dosn't have much texture so you shouldn't have to build a very thick coat to
get the mirror look. Also whenever I see that super thick bar top finish
it's usually on a veneered plywood top. With solid wood I would worry about
how to balance the finish to prevent warping and also how that product
handles wood movement. As far as depth, if your maple has some curl you can
use dyes to make the grain "pop" . Check the finishing forum on that as they
could guide you to the right products.
Thanks for the compliment.

Nice looking bar! Is there a flip top? I ask because I am designing one now and running into some confusion about the opening..
