An Artists Perspective

This carving was inspired by Marco (from Lumberjocks) when he posted the marble sculpture. It inspired me because I could see his perspective as a carver myself, and I believe that nobody realizes how the artist percieves his or her work, the amount of time involved, and the emotions involved. In this carving we see what the artist sees, how he performs his work and his perception through his painting. We will never know his emotions towards his subject. This carving was designed and drawn by me and is going to be in my blog soon. It is carved in maple. The painting is marquetry and boasts walnut burl for her head, osage orange for her linens, cocobolo for the chair, birdsey maple for the chair seat, and an unknown for her body. In fact I’m not positive about the osage for the linens but it sounds good. I could say yellow heart. What ever. This is one of my favorite carvings if not my favorite. It’s simple yet has a lot to say. I did not cut this piece to size. It is for sale. It can be 15” x 15” and has a 2” boarder. The buyer can cut it down and put his own edge, leave it at 15” and route a raised panel detail for a door, add marquetry to the border, etc. I am leaving it unfinished as well. If anyone is interested I could cut the panel, do more marquetry, route a raised panel, etc and add finish at extra costs. Please PM me if you are interested in this piece.

That would make a nice cabinet door.

Thanks Woody. I'm hoping someone feels the same way and purchases it for that purpose.
