Wall mounted Fish Art

Hurricane Fran's devastation left me with huge stacks of wood from downed trees. Thinking I would use this wood some how, some way I stacked the huge slabs in my woodwork shop. All fish are sculpted from a solid slab of wood. Poplar or tupelo works the best. Fins are made from spruce. Paint is a combination of acrylics and faux paints. These paints are applied like finger painting. Scales , on some fish, are cut from soda cans. They are shaped, and then applied (push nailed) to the fish. I recycle 25 to 40 soda cans, making 450 to 700 scales per fish. My soda can color palette is constantly changing due to the discontinuing and introduction of can designs.

Very impressive. The pieces themselves are true works of art. Add to that the "green"-ness of the product and it is really impressive. I would imagine you have trouble keeping up with your demand.

I agree - very nice work. I wondered how you got the shimmer on the scales - now I know. A great creative solution.
Sell thru galleries so you can enjoy your work. You can even call it 'green' without crossing your fingers. I'm impressed.

Hurricane Fran? Man, that was when, back in '96? I still have some wood from that storm, but it's mostly used up now. I don't like hurricanes, but someone has to clean up the mess, eh?
