I always wanted to make a nice looking rocking chair and after much research I decided to build the Hal Taylor's rocking chair; It is by a long shot in my opinion the best rocker design available in the world. This rocking chair was featured in England's most prestigious fine woodworking publication and prince Charles of Wales owns one of them (it's in his Windsor Castle) in tiger maple. The back braces (and rockers) are bent laminations and they fit into elongated wholes at the seat, and a superimposed holes at two different angles at the head rest, thus allowing for flexibility and comfort. The headrest is coopered with the grain going vertical. Hal Taylor has made hundreds of this beautiful rockers and has perfected the design through the years. And now he has made his plans available to the public. (full sizes plans with about 250 page detail instruction book and a 10 hour dvd set ) http://www.haltaylor.com/
Thanks for looking

beautiful chair, very well done. To be fair though wouldn't you say this is a maloof design since Hal really mimicked his style, right down to Sam's trademark joinery technique for the legs and exposed pegs?

Beautiful rocker, impressive joinery, in the last picture, is it all maple ? the piece coming down from the armrest seem darker. The joinery looks seamless. I love the fact there is no cross-piece between the 2 front legs. That way they do not come back to hit you in the legs.
