Very nice. Is there any other support, fastening or bracketing at the top of the leg other than the dovetail? Have you had good experience wjth this joint? I would worry about it loosening over time from expandsion and contraction? Is the top solid wood?

I would like to try this if it is time stable. It is a beautiful detail.

You did a very nice job. What is the finish 10 sheen Lac?? I think the leg connection is as strong as it needs to be. Its not a high abuse piece of furniture. Very graceful.

Table is solid wood, yes. We have tested carefully this type of leg joint. It has to be tight, but not too tight. Also endwoods grain direction must be checked near the dovetail. Grain must not go same direction as 14 degrees dovetail goes. We use polyurethane in the joint. The joint is according to our tests very strong and probably best when purpose is to put a leg right to the corner of the table top. So there is only dovetail, nothin more. We have sold this kind of table now for about 10 years, and never heard any complainments. The finish is wax. Here in scandinavia people dont want to buy anymore solid wood furnitures which are laquered. So we use OsmoColor wax, which is actually ment for floors. Thats because we think after some experience that it is best wax for diningtable in the scandinavian markets. Just simple 3 coated and polished. Sorry about my "not so good" english. And btw Cliff, about this "Inspired by that timeless Stickley footstool that always seemed to small to me", how did you do the seat, is it hand carved or machined? Very, very beautiful piece of art i think.
