Inlayed 18th Century Cabinet

Listing #434 Listed on: 10/20/2006 Name: Gregg Novosad

Company Name: Old World Wood MastersHere is another one the mags passed on. This cabinet was inspired by three of my heros: Andre' Boulle, David Roentgen, and Leonardo DaVinci. I wanted an architectural style that Roentgen had done for his Russian clients, but those pieces where veneered in simple mahagony. So I added Boulle designs made of Mother of Pearl.

Oh yeah - got anything else? I'm enjoying this far more than the last 12 issues of Fine Woodworking combined.

Simply amazing! I think I will now sell all of my woodworking machinery and go fishing or something because what I thought was woodworking doesn't begin to compare to your fine work.

Paul, there is plenty more where that came from. I got six more not yet posted (and all rejected of course);

dining table (marquetry 8,000 pieces),

noveau picture display (fretwork)

fretwork clock and table

"Fairy Blossoms" cabinet (marquetry)

wine tasting table tops (marquetry)

"Wood Man" (functional art cabinet)

If you look back in the project posts I have two older projects in addition to this and "Birds of Frey".

"Cabinet from Hell" (functional art with over 100 polymer figures, a tribut to Rodin's Gates of Hell)
Tool Cabinet (exercise in joinery and into veneering)
I will try to post on Fridays until I run out. Happy viewing. Thanksk again for lifting my spirits.
