These pieces were done between 1979 and 1986. When I was young and idealistic, thinking I could conquer the world with art quality work. The two furniture pieces were done entirely by hand except for the use of a table saw for the initial sizing of the wood. The gun cabinet is made of Sassafras picked for its quarter sawed characteristics from material I was using to make a stairway and kitchen for a house I was doing at the time. The kneeling bench was originally commissioned as a gift to be given to Notre Dame but the man who commissioned it, died halfway through the project and his family squabbled over the commission. So I paid my first six's months rent in a new building with it and the owner donated it to a local church. Quite an ego deflating situation.

beautiful work, I especially like the kneeling bench. nothing wrong with being idealistic.
I think you could conquer the world with your skills
Wow, absolutely amazing!!!!
One question for you about a statement you made under the close-up picture of the peacock door. You stated the forms had to be destroyed, I don't understand this comment. Was it because this was a requirement of the buyer wanting a unique piece or because of how the pieces had to be formed?
Thanks,
James
