What is the best adhesive to adhere a thin plastic veneer to an unvarnished, natural wood picture frame. High humidity is causing the plastic veneer to separate from the picture frames. Thank you for your help.

Hi Daniel,
If by high humidity you are talking about wood movement due to humidty changes, you arent experiencing a glue issue. Plastic and wood are going to react differently to the change in moisture content causing the glue joint to shear apart. Nothing will solve this problem, however a glue that doesnt for a rigid glue line may help a bit, but nothing will stop wood from moving with moisture. Maybe try wraping MDF instead of solid wood.

What are the details of the application? What is a high humidity area? Steam shower? Tropical climate? What is the current substrate? Whats the veneer material? What glue is being used and what application method thats failing? What size? How long? How wide?

This is in a sub-tropical area, the substrate is wood with no treatment, the veneer is thin plastic, I don't know what the original adhesive was but it it no longer adhering the plastic veneer to the wood frame, the frame is 3.5' x 3.5' and the frame width is 3" wrapped around.

I think if it were me I would be inclined to try a spray contact adhesive. Contact adhesive allows for a certain amount of wood movement. We bond hpl to plywood and this is often used in areas such as bathrooms where moisture levels change a lot. We have had very few problems

I agree with the spray contact as well though what the "raw wood" is may play a part. If it happens to be some oily material you may still have issues or want to wipe down well with Acetone or a solvent before adhering the veneer.

Single Frame? Not hundreds or thousands?

This does not sound like a person will be able make a living as a professional woodworker with just one frame.

"It is a really good frame, a nice frame, the kind we should al have, ....."
