Melamine glue, Water proof?
10/17/18
I need to glue cypress for thickness to use on a porch railing. Would melamine glue work? It seems to be very water resistant when it gets on your clothes. Many times through the wash and it is still there. I've ruled out TB3 because of sun exposure/heat. Urethane is an option but it is such a mess to use. Resorcinol phenol formaldehyde is a great glue but at $130 a gallon! Suggestions?

Melamine glue is designed for one non porous and one non-porous surface. I don't think it's designed for two porous surfaces.

I bought the resorcinol and a digital scale to weigh it. 5 to 1 by wt. The stuff sets up hard as a rock and is a pain to get off the clamp rack. Expensive but a glue failure would cost more.

Have used the resorcinol several times now. What I've found is that the time you have after mixing is less than what the instructions say. Also I'm using cypress which is fairly absorptive so it takes a heavier application than say maple. That's even though I'm putting it on both sides, per instructions. I'm applying it with a glue roller, so getting a nice even coat. For those of you that may use resorcinol, I used 30g of resin + 6 g of catalyst to cover 1 sq. ft. of board both sides.
