Automatic Door Bottoms6/29
Has anyone found an automatic door bottom ( lowers when door is closed) that works well and lasts a long time ?
The only ones I have ever used are from Conservation Technology.
But I don't have any data on it's longevity. Never had any call backs, probably only 3 ever installed. Hope this helps.
We started to use some by Planet they are sold by Bridgeport. They have several models. They can be removed or changed without removing the door.
If we ever install one, we use the Pemko products. They appear durable, but I have no idea of the life. They do need to be adjusted correctly.
I don't like the idea of moving parts that must move into place to function. A slight failure on one of these can allow gallons of water to get into the building.
We mostly use them for interior doors that require sealed door bottoms for code reasons like fire rating. Mostly house to garage or mechanical rooms. Sometimes on doors that require sound proofing.
we use pemko they work really well, We have used the on exterior doors and interior doors for light control as well
Does anyone have info per the 4th dimension -time?
I have observed frequent adjustment is needed, and most don't get it. the fact that the door is moving when the bottom is clamped down helps make things work lose.
I don't use or recommend since it I see it as not a passive element. One must actively - pro-actively actually - keep an eye on it and adjust as needed.
We don't have any of the Planet out there for a decade or longer. I did use there door bottoms as I apprenticed in Switzerland 1984-88 so they have been on the marked for some time. We use them in places like temperature controlled wine rooms.
