Glue spreader for solid wood glueups

Anyone have any pics of shop made glue spreaders for applying glue to strips of wood for panel glue? Don't want to send 1500$ on a few one? I mean a stationary spreader that you run the strip of wood on the roller.

I am not sure what you have in mind or what you are looking for, but a glue spreader for veneer would probably do the trick, although I am not sure what the narrowest one would be.
Look at the Joewoodworker website , they have a section of glue spreaders,
Maybe something there will give you some ideas.

May not work for a heavy production run but you might consider a multi-use approach like a pizzi with the appropriate accessory nozzle. Depending on how much you have to do it may be a less than perfect application compared to a roller spreader but serve a mile of other uses around the shop. We have two here and I havent picked up a full, partially full, or half empty, glue bottle in a long long time. We grabbed a pizzi at auction and then bought a clone from gluemachinery.

We have a $1500 roller glue spreader. It is at least 10 years old. So far that's $150 a year. We replace the felt on the roller periodically but besides that it works perfectly. Fast, easy, easy cleanup.

I think building one is not a great plan. If you glue enough wood to need one you should bite the bullet and buy one.

Its a Taylor, I don't think they make it any more according to their website.

There is a reduction drive for the roller and a secondary roller pushing on the main roller to moderate the glue. Not crazy complex but not something I would want to make myself.

A Black Brothers 10 inch roller spreader and the Pizzi nozzle
I really only use the Ste spreader so I'd probably sell one of the others if interested.
