Ok I know this has been asked before but I want to hire a sales person but have no clue on how this works, such as pay,sub contracted, where to find the rite person so all the above. Any ideas on what to do and what not to do.
Check the resume, if they were competent they will have one, if they don't have one...
How are you going to generate leads?
Who is going to do the estimates or do you have a set price for items?
How do your competitors deal with their salesmen?
Salesmen are like any other workers, you have go through a bunch to find a good one.
The beginning of the year is the best time to look.
Going off your website, it looks like you sell direct to consumer? If so, I would contact designers in your area. I would also contact your local high end furniture store(s). They are filled with designers who like to find unique pieces for their clients.
They could also provide some busy work to fill in the gaps if you need it. I once got paid $500 for making 2 wooden shelves. Nothing fancy, Basically s4s soft maple. They were happy cause I was 30% cheaper than the company that made the armoire it went in. The consumer was happy caused they saved some $$.
