IWF - how are you inclined at the moment?4/15
I'm interested to know how people are feeling about attending the IWF. I live close to it and can wait until close to the last minute to decide, but for those coming from further afield, how does the prospect of attending with a number of people from all parts of the globe and sharing space with some thousands of others generally strike you?
I am feeling optimistic that four months from now it will largely have run it's course, given what we've observed from places that were early to experience the pandemic, but of course we are in uncharted territory to some degree.
I love the incredible variety of the IWF and would be quite unhappy if it were cancelled or things seemed too dicey to attend, but would enjoy hearing the range of opinion from my colleagues here.
I haven't gone for a while now, but would definitely not attend this year. This thing has just barely, if at all started to peak in IL. But I am in the high risk for age, wife for age, weight, and severe asthma. I'm not bringing something home to her. A trip to IWF versus a life isn't even close to a consideration for me.
I was looking forward to attend this year. It would be my first ever.
I feel strong enough not to worry too much about virus regarding my well-being, but if the situation is not cleared till August I'll respect (as I do now) whatever the recommendations are in order not to endanger the rest of the population.
However, if they cancel it this year, I hope we'll not have to wait till 2022 for the next one.
I've never been, but would like to go.
Nothing currently going on is impacting whether I would or would not go, unless it's not happening because of it.
I'm going to book a refundable flight now while they are cheap as well as a hotel room with a good cancellation policy. If this fizzles out and people feel comfortable in 4.5 months, people may be looking to buy some new machinery - especially with all of that free gummint money in their pockets. It has the potential to be a great show but it also might not happen at all.
As an exhibitor this will be our first show. We're excited and certainly hope America is back in business by then. NuTek Machinery is bringing in a zero-glue line edgebander produced in Lambach, Austria by Ott. We look for it to be a fantastic show for us since the Ott can run EVA but really shines with PUR glue. The PUR system is so good that the last EVA machine they sold was in 2016. I believe the new awareness to health and germs will boost the popularity of PUR.
We're like most everyone at the current time though, and looking to stay busy and will be offering Pre-IWF show specials just in case the show gets cancelled.
Let's hope IWF is a go this August and we hope to see some of you at our booth!
i was booked to go, and canceled. there's no way i will be caught in and around x0,000 people, no matter what anyone says.
i've lost two friends due to this virus, 44 and 49. too close to home.
IWF is great...but not this year.
I'm sorry to hear you lost two friends to this. Above all else we need to follow all the preventative measures we know will keep ourselves and our families safe.
I too lost a friend Healthy 54 YO, At 63 w diabetes and a needed Knee replacement i cannot see attending one of the best shows i love to attend.
We are gonna be in for a real test of time, Pray the test becomes available for Small business. this would alleviate tons of undestandable fear..
There is a 0% chance I would go. Not just "no" but "hell no".
And I am really hoping the Amish and Mennonites protect themselves and stay away from it. I know there are a lot of them in our industry and they are frequently at these shows, and I cannot see any version of this being anything but a disaster for them if this virus starting making rounds through their populations.
As a senior citizen with health issues I will be staying away from people traveling from all over the globe, this assumes the state or feds allow 20,000 plus people to gather and hotels and cabs and all that other stuff is open.
Sometime in the next two-four weeks equipment from Europe and Asia will need to be on boats, show setup starts about 2-3 weeks before the show.
Lots of vendors might have online videos to demo.
