We are in the market to purchase a new used edgebander. I've heard good things about the SCMI K201. We primarily apply 3mm PVC to 30mm thick particle board. We make work surfaces for cubicles. We currently have a Weeke CNC which I like and has been a great workhorse. Does Brandt or holzHer make a goo entry level edgebander that you might recommend?

I have a K201. I am happy with it because it is small and I am a one person shop. Mine is not a 3mm capable machine. You will be needing the Plus model that has a better guillotine and end trim mechanism.
The weakness of the K201 is glue feed adjustment and end trim precision for the non Plus model in my opinion.
I considered a Cehisa EP-8, Brandt KD57 or 58 but couldn't find one in my price range at the time. Both are relatively small and probably better suited to 3mm banding than the SCM but I haven't worked with them.

Brandt Ambition 1100 we have would do 3mm on 30mm thick all day long. Just be sure to get profile scrapers and the buffing wheel.

I'd also be adamant about getting the pre-mil, especially if any of your items are built-up two layer.

I have a Brandt Ambition 1110F, which has been a pretty good entry level production bander. In my opinion it is not enough of a machine to do 3mm pvc on 1-1/8 PB all day long. I wished I'd gone the next step up to get contour rounding (Ambition 1120FC), because end radiusing with a hand router is a real pain.

Jared, what about the Ambition 1100 would you say makes it insufficient for that?

I'm not necessarily disagreeing with you--- we do 2mm instead of 3mm (including 2mm radius), but we haven't had any issues doing this when necessary for extended periods.

I'm specifically wondering if perhaps you've found a limitation to the machine that I should be aware of with my own machine lol.

For what it's worth, we routinely do 2mm wood, 1-1/2" thick (two layer plywood) to make 38mm thick panels. The only real limitation we have found is the pre-mil.... we can't safely cut more than 0.7mm on 38mm thick ply. But that's sufficient for us.

We are happy with our Holzher 1310-6 bander.

I would say this is a entry level bander good for the smaller shop. It has scraping and buffing but no pre-mill or corner rounding.

I would opt for corner rounding over pre-mill because we get good edges from our CNC and don't see a need for pre-mill. We don't do a lot of 3 mill but have not had issues when we use it. I like 2 mill better as I find the 3 mill too heavy looking.

I had a Chehisa bander with a glue pot and would be very reluctant to go back to that system. I find the Holzher glue injection system less problematic but I know there is a lot of discussion about that fact ;)

I think there are lots of good uses banders out there. I am not sure where you are located, but parts of Canada the economy is not that great so lots of shops shutting down and stuff selling cheap.
I have used holtzer, SCm and Brandt, I wouldn’t buy holtzer again as there is no one in my area to service them.
Scm makes great banders, Like Tom said most of the 201’s are not set up for 3 mil, you would need the plus, the 203 is a better machine for 3 mil, it will run all day for your application.
Brandt makes some great ones as well, I currently have a 340, it has corner rounding and scrapers, it will do 3 mil beautifully.
Another thing is different edgebanders feed different directions, to most people that probably doesn’t matter, but to the odd few it does.
I recommend getting a machine where you have service and parts for in your area.
