Side Mount Soft Close Slides3/8/15
Last time I checked (several years ago) the feedback on these wasn't very good.
Anyone using a brand of these that they've been pleased with?
I've had really good performance with the KV 8450 FM Soft Closing Full Extension Slides, but I've only used a few dozen not hundreds or thousands.
Accuride recently re-engineered their model 3832EC and it works quite well.
I used them in the past and at that time were a total PIA. Lots of callbacks and angry customers.
I just used some KV soft close side mounts on some large entertainment center drawers. They worked quite well and were about $11 a pair. Just make sure your drawer is 1-1/16" narrower than the opening. 1" is too tight, and they will bind up.
We've used the KV's as well. Haven't had any problems with them.
I used the kv's on one kitchen and will never do it again. I use Salice undermounts.
I also used the KV's on ONE job only, several years ago, never again. I have been using the Blumotion undermounts. I even had a kitchen flood, yes 48" deep water for 3 days. I tore these out and reused the guides on one of my own projects and they are still holding up.
The KV side mount soft close are the best out there as far as side mount goes imo. For the guys saying they wont use them again...you just did not take enough care and time to install and adjust them correctly. You should be able to pull the drawer and it glides out smooth and push it back with a finger and it glides in smooth. If not, you need more adjustment or your boxes are off one way or the other.
What I found in my experience was that the box had to be built aboulutly spot on for it to work. We had to replace several slides that the spring mechanism come unhooked and wouldn't work. Hard to say someone didn't take enough time or care to do it right if you wasn't there watching them do it. Bottom line is to the original poster, undermounts have greater tolerances, easier to install, look and work better, and don't cost that much more.
Mixed results here with KV 8450fm slides.
Boxes are cnc cut, with 1/16 extra clearance. I know they are spot on. Drilling is done via cnc too.
Slides seem to come poorly packaged.
Last job I had to replace at least 7 pairs out of 20 before they even left my shop. At least 4 pairs were found to be defective before I had even installed them.
Way too much time adjusting them. Still have at least one more pair on that job I may replace.
Will be dropping KV altogether. Would rather pay more for something that just works and that won't piss off my clients.
I ended up using Accurride for this and they were awful. I'll make every effort to avoid side mounts for jobs requiring soft close in the future.
Let me reiterate, the Accurides were awful.
