Converting a Grass EcoPress3/29/15
I picked up a used Grass EcoPress recently. It is the 42mm version, although the dowel drilling bits have been removed. I see where Grass is now selling a 45mm version, is it possible to convert a 42mm to a 45mm?
I have one that I bought at an auction in error. I use it for closet assembly inserts.
Bill, I've been down the same exact road. Not knowing that Grass hinges were different spacing than Blum/Salice, I bought a used EcoPress even though we use Blum exclusively.
Salice sold me a conversion gearbox through my distributor. Not cheap, but it was still cheaper than a new Blum press once it was all done. Been using the machine for 3 years now and it still works great.
Evan, I'd like more information on the gear block you got from Salice.
I honestly couldn't pass it up for the price. I've been buying my hinges without the dowels anyway, so this machine has worked out well so far. However, it does require an additional step to drill for the screws and I'd like to eliminate that if possible.
I had the rep from my hardware distributor find it through Salice. I paid about $600. It's a direct replacement for the gear block, it includes the linear bearings etc. Takes about 1 hour to r&r.
