What is your shop's ratio of painter/finishers to builders?
1 to 1........
I'm a 1 man custom shop
I also sweep and mop
Yep, I'm like Bill. 1 to 1 ratio, I guess.
1 man plus my kid to clean up the mess i make
1/2 to 1 1/2 two of us in the shop I do all the finishing except he does all the sanding
6 1/2 in production, 2 finishers. Production finish sands raw wood. Almost nothing outsourced
No painters in the Finishing Department; just Wood Finishers.
Ive always been around 3/1 builders to finishers. My builders level sand and fill everything before it goes for "detailing" and finishing. It only takes another 10 minutes after the box and faceframe are built to fill and sand, and the finisher is much more efficient if he isn't spending time switching machines and paper. Additionally, the finishers appreciate the buy-in from the builders on the end product.
The two custom frame-inset shops I've been in: 13:3 and 4:1.
