Thermofoil

Part of me hates to even mention the word Thermofoil due to the fact that there was a discoloration problem and delaminating problem that seemed to haunt this whole process in the past - 10 years ago. Does any one have current experience with this? Has the process or material changed for the better? Would any of you even consider using this? I have a project where, in a couple of lesser seen rooms, this might be a good alternative...but, I'm skittish.

We use tons of rtf. I love it for secondary rooms which is what we do a lot of. Long lasting, durable. The downside is there is no fixing it. You want to be very careful handling it.
I moved into my house 15 years ago. It has nice cabinets with a decent finish. I put organizers with rtf drawers in all the closets when we moved in. The cabinet doors are chipped and peeling in the high touch areas. I could take the rtf out of the closets and put in a customers home and they wouldn’t know they were used.

Where do you purchase your rtf doors from? No issues with whites wanting to yellow?

I’m on west coast. My primary is Pro Lam formerly LTI, then Cal Door. No issues with color change ever.

Have you ever had a problem with edges peeling over time especially next to the oven or DW?

They don’t like heat. I don’t do kitchen so I can’t say about dishwasher, I wouldn’t worry about it. We have had an issue with a customer not wanting to put a window cover on to blockout California afternoon sun.

I bought a new house in 2000 with those cabinet doors. They are now in terrible condition, peeling, chipping. Builder quality cabinets, I. E. crappy. I even know someone that makes nice cabinets, but he never has time.

How about doing a thermafoil (IKEA) Kitchen . Except having a portion above the stove custom made. So you could have a rice cooker coffee maker, and in general not worry about heat?
